Been terrified of this day for almost 14 years now, but it's happening. The McKennas are pulling out of NYC and headed to TEXAS. As in the Republic. Going to my namesake, looking to purchase neon AUSTIN t-shirt in airport on arrival to seal the deal. Heart breaker for sure. Also, pretty fucking awesome. Earmuffs.
Job has been secured. C. Newman on real estate prowl. We may actually have a back yard and car port by Labor Day. I've pledged to put on the Texas twenty, as a matter of civic pride.
Much more to come on this as it processes. Send off function could involve tossing dinner in the urinal at Blue & Gold.
On to business.
Last night, the league of extraordinary gentlemen, that's me and Trey B., hit Radio City for the Decemberists / Robyn Hitchcock show. Robyn I'm not that in to, just never paid him any heed. He was playing with Pete Buck and Scott McCaughey, which was pretty cool.
Portland's third finest, however, another story. First set was some business about chimbleys and swans and maidens and galleons. Went right over my head. But looked well rehearsed and expensive.
Second set was the hits. Sans the architect tune, which I'm particular to. Real showmen, ripped Heart's "Crazy on You" and Peter Buck joined for "Begin the Begin" which is the kind of thing you don't really ever get to see. Smashing. Lots of little forest nymphs and pant suits on stage. Can't see much from these, but you get the idea. Room holds 6K.
Alright, these embeds never quite work, but this is what we're getting all sweaty about here at 88 India. I can't get enough of Chris Lopez's stuff. And these Deerticks are the best fake rednecks we've seen in a while.
Meanwhile, mom was assembling some genius, with tools and things. Evidence of that industry to follow shortly. Beavers coming in hot tonight, party prep underway.

Big weekend, made lots of tracks and covered a lot of acreage. Kicked it off Thursday, with some gang signs, astral halos and rabble rousing.
Another from the daddy / daughter series. Replica behavior, pantsless and disoriented.
Glad girls:
At the Diamond, Friday Happy Hour, drinking shandies, waiting for the Black Bishops.
That is an HH Carolina Burger, with almost award winning chili. Dad ate two of these delicious hubcaps.
Checking out the Polish Bikini Nationals in McCarren Park.
Pizza night at 88 India. That's a full body bib. 10% effective.
Sunday prowl to the dog free park off Battery City. Hula Hoop girls held lady marmalade's attention for a clean minutes. Dad in shameless leisure wear.
We gave Vietnamese a shot this evening. Jane ordered the Pho, #59a, some cabbage stuff. All of it she gas faced. Not a hit.
Oh no, JB took a digger showing off for some ladies at the Thad Lee baptism and organ shuck / jive. It was bloody, briefly. Fat Lip / tile daze:
She was kind of walking, let go of mom's hand, blam. This is what it looks like when she's less distracted. She's getting pretty bold with the foot work.
The baptism went down in Times Square, which has become some kind of picnic area. Rife with pan flautists.
From this morning, this is when she favors me I think. Got a full diaper here, riding low, negotiating a changing. Our bellies match up pretty good.
These guys again:
A few from the weekend rounds.
We're making some observations around here. The Goldbloom driven L&O franchise is pure diaper genie. That one merits missing. Also, the silver steel cage we drive around has a no Floyd policy, still standing. Makes listening to the radio tough - that drivel always shortlisted. Finally, see anything with Rod Stieger or Warren Oates in it.
So, while the Jane Bug kicked it in the Queen City (impressive, below), Beav and I beelined to my namesake for some much needed R&R, Texas style. That town knows how to eat.
Charles put us up, brilliantly. We saw all the sights, the Gourds, the bottom of a few taco dinners, and Lockhardt.
Camp Newman:
Charles has the BEST toys. Pool AND firepit not pictured.
This is us on the way to Lockhart, some kind of BBQ capitol. That's two kids, two dogs, three adults, Tropic Thunder and some Pete Yorn probably.
We skipped Kreutz's for Smitty's.
I am humbled by the pit technology. Can't imagine this in August. Nothing cole slaw can't fix I suppose.
The before and almost after:
The county seat:
Texas is pretty funny:
Gourds. What a scene. UT sorority girls, beach chair set, hipsters, choochs.
Anyways, we had the best time. Possible center for relo, hence, the scrutiny. Should have taken more pics, but my stomach was prohibiting my hand from attaining my pocket in most cases. Back in the big hurt, this is what happenes when dad is tasked with dinner:
JB dancing to Jill Hives, gotta blow this Klambake to shake a leg.
Last Friday we left for our first weekend away without the Janebug. We dropped her at the Charlotte airport en route to Texas. Handoff went smoothly, and within minutes of arrival Chez Beaver she discovered my old circus set, refrigerator magnets, her own kitchen and cooking supplies and a Jane-sized tea party! She also got plenty of walking practice with this apparatus:Next was swimming in the backyard in her very own pool: Then, dressed to the nines (in C.B.'s own design and creation) for a playdate with the gorgeous White Twins: Tyler and Harper: Finally, Jane got reacquainted with her Christmas present- the fire truck.... and did some birdwatching with Grandpa MO: Looks to me like she had a pretty good time. She was truly confused when she saw me yesterday. It took a good 15 minutes for her to undertstand that I was back for good. She had clearly fallen completely in love with her grandbeavers and didn't necessarily want to leave them, but she warmed up to me again quickly and was an absolute angel for the much delayed flight back to NYC. All is back to normal. It was great to get away and we had an awesome time in Texas (Dad will post about that later), but we really missed our girl and are glad to have her back! Thanks to Mama & Papa Beav for the babysitting! xo Winz
